THREE DATES, ALL OF THEM INDOORS

Fort Night

Cards · Free

It gets dark pretty early at this time of year… which can make outdoor dates kind of hard. Build a blanket fort in your front room out of couch cushions, dining chairs and whatever bedsheets you are willing to take off a bed, then play cards inside it. President, War and Egyptian Rat Screw all have rules you can read in about ninety seconds, and none of them need more than one deck.

When you see them in person, say: “I’m building a blanket fort at my place tonight and need someone to play cards in it with me. Wanna come?”

Featured Single: Get Your Own Card

We’ll feature you (or a friend) as a single in an upcoming issue, using your photo and a few lines about you (or your friend), so other readers can reach out and ask you (or them) out, all for $5. Think a one-person profile card that goes to the whole list instead of doom scrolling on Mutual.

How it works:

(1) Venmo $5 to me, @hamiltonpr,

(2) reply to this email with a photo, first name, age, year and major, what you are looking for, and how you want people to reach you.

Sit Still

Sometimes these pictures crack me up (yes this is AI generated)

Concert · $20 for two

The SCERA Chamber Singers are doing Tribute to American Music on Monday 9 November at 7 PM at the SCERA Center for the Arts in Orem. It is $10 per ticket, and the program runs America the Beautiful, Deep River, Somewhere from West Side Story, and pieces by Gershwin, Bernstein and Copland.

Text them and say: “This is kind of random, but we’ve had stats together all semester. There’s a choir thing happening in Orem Monday at seven. Want to come?”

Guest Star in our Next Edition

Send us a selfie and you could be a person in next week’s date pictures. We drop you right into the scene using AI, so you and a friend can go looking for yourselves in the photos.

Two Hours for One Text

Overthinking · BYU Studies

A BYU Studies survey of dating and marriage at BYU found that 60 percent of students named “fear of making a mistake” as a primary factor discouraging them from dating. The thing worth noticing is what that fear was actually about: the question put to them was about decisions regarding marriage, not about asking somebody to a concert. That is a genuinely enormous decision and being careful about it is correct. The problem is that the weight leaks backwards onto smaller choices that do not deserve it, which is how you and I end up overthinking a simple text. Sometimes dating isn’t about whether the next girl is someone you want to marry. Part of dating is getting to learn all along the way.

Material Witness

Quilts · $20 for two

The 2026 Holiday Quilt Show fills the Show Barn at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi with hundreds of hand-quilted pieces, and it runs Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 November, 9:30 AM to 8:30 PM. Admission is $10, at the door or online. It is a biennial show, so the next one is in 2028, and it is one of the last all-hand-quilted shows left in the country.

Both days run until 8:30 PM, so this is a thing you can do after class rather than instead of it.

Call them and say: “There’s a barn full of quilts in Lehi Tuesday night and I want to go look at it. You in?”

Have you had success using one of these date ideas? Have you started dating someone since subscribing to this newsletter? We want to hear your story!
