BEFORE WE GET STARTED…

You guys are so awesome!!

Last week I asked you to share with your roommates, your mom, your dog, whoever you care about in your life, and you guys definitely delivered.

Up this week:

  • a tea party for a date

  • a fire breakfast place

  • a candy prank for Halloween

Spill the Tea

Tea · $45 for up to 8 (so that’s ~$10 / date pair)

The Dirty Tea Party is a Provo outfit that brings an entire tea party to wherever you tell them to put it: a backyard, a patio, a park, your apartment. They turn up about fifteen minutes early, set the whole thing out, then leave so it is already finished when you walk up, and they come back to pack it down when you text them. The Classic Tea is $45 for three hours and covers the fine teacups and saucers, a three-tiered tray of finger foods, cloth napkins in rings, the table and chairs, and a teapot filled with whatever you choose, which can be any soda, hot chocolate, sparkling cider, juice, or whatever other creative idea you might have.

When you see them in person, say: “I booked a reservation for a tea party for Friday at four and it seats eight. Want to be my plus one?”

Featured Single: Get Your Own Card

We’ll feature you as a single in an upcoming issue, using your photo and a few lines about you, so other readers can reach out and ask you out, all for $5. Think a one-person profile card that goes to the whole list instead of doom scrolling on Mutual.

How it works:

(1) Venmo $5 to me, @hamiltonpr,

(2) reply to this email with a photo, your first name, age, year and major, what you are looking for, and how you want people to reach you.

Ask the Second Question

Listening · Dale Carnegie

The fourth principle in How to Win Friends and Influence People is simply to be a good listener, and encourage the other person to talk about themselves. Instead of asking her something and expecting her to ask something in return, ask follow up questions: she says she is from St. George, you ask about what it’s like there.

Breakfast of Legends

Breakfast · $19 for two

Legends Motorcycles in Springville is a warehouse full of some of the rarest bikes in the world, it is free to walk through, and the Sidecar Cafe is an old-school diner sitting inside the same building. It is open seven days a week, 8 AM to 2 PM most days, until 3 on Wednesday, and from 7:30 on Friday and Saturday. It is at 1715 West 500 South, about twenty minutes south of Provo, and it serves breakfast and lunch only, so this is a morning date.

Text them and say: “This is kind of random, but we’ve had stats together all semester. I’m getting breakfast in a motorcycle museum Saturday. Want to come?”

Last week we told you to lay a line of wrapped chocolate down a path at Kiwanis Park and then go hide and see whether a stranger would follow it. We would like to know whether anybody actually did it, and more importantly whether anybody followed. Rate Trail Mix out of ten.

Knock, Then Give

Trick-or-treating · under $10

Halloween is Saturday the 31st. Put on a costume, buy a bag of wrapped candy, and go door to door handing it out to whoever answers, instead of collecting it. Walmart has a 55-piece Hershey assortment for $7.94, or a 30-piece bag for $5.54 if you are only doing a short street. Go between six and eight, while people still have their own bowl by the door and are expecting to answer it. One street is about twenty-five doors and forty minutes, which is plenty.

Call them and say: “I’m going door to door in costume on Halloween handing candy out instead of collecting it. You in?”

From the Editor

Thanks for making it to the bottom. The clocks go back on Sunday night, which means every outdoor date after this week happens in the dark, so this is the week to spend the last of the daylight on somebody.

Share it with a friend, your roommate, your mom, maybe even your dog. Then go try one.

Until next time,

— Two Tacos & a Hike
