Hey you date-goer!

This week the dates are mostly free so you really have no excuse to go try at least one of them. (so yeah, you really are a date-goer as of this week)

Also, I’m looking for more of your favorite date ideas. I’d love to feature what you suggest!

FIVE DATES FOR THIS WEEK

1. Springville Summer Concert Series

Live Music · Free

Springville City runs a free outdoor concert in a downtown park all summer, June through August, and food trucks set up on every concert night. The first one is on June 13th, so this Saturday! Get there early enough to pick a spot on the grass before it fills in. The music changes week to week, which means you don't need to already be a fan to have a good time out there.

How to ask: "Springville has a free outdoor concert with food trucks tonight. Would you want to come with me?"

FROM OUR READERS

DATE DARE

On your next date, I dare you to…

Bring something to the date that proves you remembered something she said last time you talked. Doesn't have to be a gift. Just something.

2. Current Events

Water · Under $10

The Provo River floats from Vivian Park to Bridal Veil Falls and a tube or cheap inflatable should be able to handle it fine for beginners. You’ll need to park your shuttle car at the takeout point before you start, then give yourself two to three hours depending on water level. Starting early keeps you from finishing in the dark, and basking in the warmth of sunlight. If you aren’t afraid to spend some money (we’re talking like $60), there’s a company providing the tubes and the shuttles.

How to ask: "So I’m tubing the Provo River this Saturday. The river does all the work. Can you come with me?"

3. Pick a Bouquet

Game · Free

Trader Joe's and Costco have the best cheap flowers in Provo, big bundles for $5-10. Walk in without a plan, let her pick what she actually likes. The point isn't to give her flowers. The point is doing something together that has no stakes and takes zero athletic ability. You learn something about someone by what they stop to look at.

How to ask: "Come to Trader Joe's with me; I want to pick out flowers for you!"

4. Pair Pressure

Food · Under $15

Pick up an orange and fresh mint from the grocery store. Eat them together. From there, test five or six more pairings: strawberry with black pepper, watermelon with feta, pineapple with pretzels. Buy small amounts of each and go in order. The ones that should be wrong are always more interesting than the ones that should work.

How to ask: "Food experiment Saturday. If you bring zero expectations, I'll supply the oranges."

5. Slackline

Active · Under $40

A slackline is a flat strap of webbing strung between two trees a few feet off the ground. You walk across it and falling is the main activity for the first 20 minutes. Sets run $25-40 at REI, or borrow one if you know someone with a setup. BYU's lower campus has good trees for the span length. Most people take three steps without falling somewhere in the first half-hour. It is harder than it looks but super fun.

How to ask: "I have a slackline. Come fall off it with me this Saturday."

From the Editor

Summer has a way of making you realize the thing you were waiting for was never actually coming. There is no better moment. There's just this week, it's warm, and this week's list is mostly free. The only version of this that doesn't work is the one where you don't send the text.

Until next time,
