Before we get started…

When I look around, I see a lot of people wishing they had friends, things to do, people to care about them.

When you are a little bold and decide to ask someone out (or really even just hang out), it might make their day, their week, or their month, that someone noticed and care about them.

Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there when most people will extatically receive your invite.

With that, let’s get into some date ideas for this week!

FIVE DATES FOR THIS WEEK

Build Your Own Mini-Golf Course

Active · Free

Grab a putter or two and two balls, then turn BYU or UVU campus into a course you invent as you go. Before every hole, agree on a tee and a target: a specific door handle, a bench leg, a crack in the pavement. Par is whatever you call it before the first stroke. Its really fun to wander around campus and try to not be embarrassed.

How to ask: "We're building our own mini-golf course across campus Saturday. You pick the first hole."

Paddleboarding on Utah Lake

Water · ~$30

Outdoors Unlimited on BYU campus rents paddleboards for $30 the first day, and that covers the board, paddle, pump, and a life jacket. Take it fifteen minutes west to Utah Lake State Park and launch off the beach. Reserve ahead, because they go fast on warm weekends. You should try to go in the morning before the wind picks up.

How to ask: "I'm renting a paddleboard Saturday morning. You should come even if you fall in the lake with me."

Let's Taco 'Bout It

Food · Under $20

Street Tacos Don Joaquin has a Provo spot, and on Tuesdays the tacos run a dollar each before 5pm. Order at least three different kinds so you both taste more. Rank them out loud as you go and lock in a winner before you leave. Cheap, fast, and you find out if they actually like tacos (which is pretty important to us).

How to ask: "Dollar taco Tuesday at Don Joaquin's. Bring your appetite and your hot takes."

Icebreaking Fiend

At some point, whether its 5 minutes into your first date, or 3 hours into your second, the small talk runs dry and it might feel more than a little awkward. Have this one ready for the lull:

hot dogs are tacos, try to change my mind.

Pedal to the Metal

Thrills · ~$50

The Grid in Pleasant Grove is a three-story indoor track with electric karts that hit 40 mph, twenty minutes north. A race runs around $25 a person, and you should book online because the walk-in wait gets long. Its cheaper on weekdays so plan to go on a Tuesday or Wednesday. There's a quick safety briefing, then you're on the banked turns trying not to get passed. Its kind of expensive, but tell me this doesn’t sound like a lot of fun.

How to ask: "Go-kart racing at The Grid Wednesday. Loser buys fries afterwards. You in?"

The Surprise Picnic

Romantic · Under $20

Tell her it's just a walk. Pack the food the night before: sandwiches, fruit, two drinks, a blanket, and stash it in your bag. When you reach a good spot at Kiwanis Park or anywhere with grass and a view, pull it all out like it was nothing. The food matters less than the fact that you planned it. She won't see it coming.

How to ask: "Want to go on a walk tonight?"

FROM OUR READERS

ONE HELPFUL TIP

Here's something nobody tells you:

She wants you to really know her before you just start giving her a ton of compliments. It feels so much better to receive a compliment because someone saw something about you and really appreciates it than just a basic compliment.
